Adding Permissions to Wiki Pages

Tiki's security model allows you configure page-specific permissions. For example if you have several wiki pages on your site that are "private" and should be visible to Registered (logged in) users only, you can change the pages' permission so that Anonymous visitors cannot view the page (even if the Anonymous group has the tiki_p_view permission).

Let's change the permissions on the MyNewPage so that is:
  • Visible only to Registered users
  • Editable only by the Administrator

  1. As the Admin, access the MyNewPage page.
    Button bar
    The Perms button on MyNewPage

  2. At the bottom of the page, click the Perms button. The Assign Permissions page appears.
    Assign Permissions page
    Assigning permissions to MyNewPage
  3. In the Assign permissions area select the following fields:
    • Assign: Select the tiki_p_view permission.
    • To Group: Select the Registered group. This will allow only users in the the Registered group (and groups that inherit the Registered group) to view the page.
  4. Click This Page. Tiki saves the information and reloads the page.

In the Current permissions area, Tiki shows the page-specific permissions.
Current permissions.
Now only Registered users can view the page.

NoteNote:
Assigning page-specific permissions will override all group permissions for the page. For example, even though the Registered group has the tiki_p_edit permission, Registered users will no longer be able to edit the MyNewPage because you assigned a custom permission.

If you want Registered users to view and edit the page, you would have to assign tiki_p_edit to the Registered group for this page, too.

Now let's make the paged editable only by the Administrator. Repeat this procedure to assign tiki_p_edit to the Admin group.
Current permissions.
Now only Registered users can view the page AND admins can edit the page.

If you log off and try to access the MyNewPage page, Tiki will prompt you to login. Remember, only registered users can now view the page.
