Using OpenID

Site News
Did you know that Smarties supports OpenID (external link)? Yup, Tiki has had OpenID support since release 1.10 (or 2.0, if you prefer).

To login with your OpenID, simply click the OpenID button OpenID icon in the login form at the top of the page.

You'll then be able to enter your OpenID and validate it.

Pretty neat, eh?

DB being restored

Site News
Had a slight database problem, but everything is now corrected. Pages that were added and updated between Nov. 15 - 20 are having problems. :-(

No worries though (especially for Jorkki who has been working on Finnish translations) — the pages will be restored from backups during this weekend.

Site upgrade is complete

I've completed the upgrade of Smarties to Tiki 3.3. It has been a long time n coming, but now that I'm finally up-to-date, I've taken this opportunity to implement several of Tiki's newest features as well as improve some of the site's design issues.

Smarties Site Upgrade

Site News
Hot on the heels of Tiki 3.3 and 4.0 Beta (external link), I'm working on updating the TikiWiki for Smarties site. Some of the features I will be adding:
  • Improved site layout/UI
  • Better multilingual/translation support
  • Allowing anonymous edits via Tiki's staging feature
  • Other minor tweaks.
You can see a sneak preview of the new site (in progress) at: http://twbasics.keycontent.org/smarter/ (external link)

Please do tell me what you think.

Smart Toolbar

Release 3.0 (external link) is nearly ready! I have been working on updating the Smarties information. I've also been testing the site upgrade (from 2.x to 3.0) and can report that it went quite smoothly. The biggest issues will be moving from a tables-based layout to (almost) pure CSS.

In the meantime, I've been playing with a custom browser toolbar for Smarties:

TikiWiki for Smarties toolbar

It provides direct access to the major chapter sections in the guide, the demo videos, search engine, and RSS feeds. Try it out (external link) and let me know what you think!

Download and install the TikiWiki for Smarties Community toolbar: http://tikiwikiforsmarties.ourtoolbar.com/ (external link)

"Smarties" wins a Merit Award

By: Rick Sapir  on: Jan. 20, 2009 09:41 am EST
Site News
I just heard... TikiWiki for Dummies Smarties has won a Merit Award in the STC Carolina Online Communication.
From the competition...
To earn a merit award, the entry must consistently meet high standards in most areas. The entry might contain a small number of major or minor flaws, but still applies technical communication principles in a highly proficient manner.

I'll link to the official announcement when it is posted, as well as include several of the judging comments. Thanks to all who contributed to this project!
